Claims that Balochistan has declared independence from Pakistan have gone viral after a statement issued in the name of the "Republic of Balochistan" started circulating widely on social media. The document makes several major claims, including the formation of a new government, the adoption of national symbols and control over most of the region. However, there is no official confirmation that Balochistan has become an independent country. Pakistan has also not issued any official response to the viral statement so far.
The statement has gained attention across social media as it calls on the international community to recognise Balochistan as an independent nation. It presents several claims about the region's administration, security forces and natural resources. At the same time, none of these claims has been independently verified.
According to the statement, Balochistan has declared independence and adopted its national anthem, "Ma Chukain Balochani." It also claims that the region now has its own national flag and a new currency called the "Balochi Falus." The document further states that the self-proclaimed Republic of Balochistan currently exercises control over 85 per cent of its territory.
The letter also claims that the new administration has taken charge of the region's key natural resources. It says the government now controls mineral reserves, gas fields and coal mines across Balochistan.
"These developments make Balochistan deserving of international recognition. We now control the republic's gold and copper mines, more than 150 active gas fields, and over 1,200 operational coal mines across the Republic of Balochistan," the statement said.
The document also alleges that several members of Pakistan's security agencies have resigned from their positions and joined the Baloch side. It claims that the administration now manages the region through its own defence and security forces.
"Today, we are administering the State of Balochistan through our own security and defence forces. We may not possess fighter jets, attack helicopters, tanks, missiles, or heavy artillery, but we control our land. A force of 500,000 personnel comprising the Balochistan military, navy, air force, and civil administration stands ready to overthrow the occupying forces of Pakistan by the end of 2026," it added.
The statement further says that people in Balochistan have rejected Pakistan's presence in the region. It also claims that a growing number of Baloch and Pashtuns have resigned from the Pakistan Army, police, Frontier Corps and Levies to support the movement.
The self-proclaimed Republic of Balochistan has appealed to countries around the world to recognise it as an independent nation. It also urged neighbouring countries to treat Balochistan as a separate state. The statement assured regional governments that it would not allow Pakistan's military, navy or air force to use its territory, airspace or coastline to carry out activities that could destabilise the region.
The document also argues that recognising Balochistan as an independent country would improve regional stability. It claims such recognition would end what it describes as decades of Pakistan's hostility, nuclear blackmail and extremism.
Balochistan has witnessed unrest for many years. The region has seen repeated protests against the Pakistani government. Demonstrators have often raised slogans against Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The unrest has remained a major political and security challenge for Islamabad.
The latest viral statement has added to discussions surrounding the situation in Balochistan. If the claims made in the document are verified in the future, they could create serious political and security challenges for Pakistan. At present, there is no independent confirmation that Balochistan has declared independence or that it controls the territory and resources mentioned in the statement.
Pakistan has not officially responded to the viral claims. Authorities have also not commented on the letter or its contents. Until verified information becomes available, the claims made in the statement remain unconfirmed despite their wide circulation on social media.
