Assam Rifles, India's oldest paramilitary force, entered into a MoU with Medhavi Skills University (MSU). The agreement aims to offer skill-based degree and diploma programmes specifically tailored for the wards and spouses of serving, retired, and deceased personnel of Assam Rifles who have faced physical casualties during their service. This initiative underscores a commitment to recognise and assist the families of individuals who have made significant sacrifices in service to the nation.
The MoU was formalised at the Assam Rifles Headquarters in Shillong, where Major General Jai Singh Bainsla, SM, Additional Director General of Assam Rifles, and Mr Kuldip Sarma, Co-founder & Pro-Chancellor of Medhavi Skills University, signed the agreement in a formal ceremony, as stated in a press release by Assam Rifles.
The MoU highlights a significant educational opportunity by granting priority admission to skill-based programmes at Medhavi Skills University (MSU) for the wards and spouses of serving, retired, and deceased Assam Rifles personnel.
According to the agreement, MSU will reserve a minimum of 150 seats in undergraduate programmes specifically for the wards and spouses of Assam Rifles personnel who are serving, retired, or deceased. Additionally, a minimum of 50 seats will be reserved in postgraduate programmes for these eligible candidates.
The MoU also outlines substantial concessions for eligible candidates, including a 50% reduction in tuition fees for wards and spouses of serving, retired, or deceased Assam Rifles (AR) personnel. Additionally, there will be a 10% concession in hostel accommodation fees for these beneficiaries.
Furthermore, the press release specifies that 100% tuition fee concessions will be provided for Veer Naris (widows of armed forces personnel) and wards of battle casualties. Wards and spouses of gallantry award winners and retired AR personnel who received gallantry awards or were involved in battle casualties will benefit from an 80% reduction in tuition fees.
To strengthen the link between education and employment, the agreement includes collaborative efforts on curriculum development, internships, and placements, according to the press release.
The primary aim of this partnership is to facilitate access to high-quality education and skill development opportunities. Eligible candidates under this initiative will have access to a range of skill-based degree and diploma programmes offered by Medhavi Skills University.
These programmes are designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge aligned with industry needs, thereby enhancing their employability and enabling them to make meaningful contributions to society, the press release emphasised.
