Arvinder Singh Lovely, who stepped down as Delhi Congress president due to the party's alliance with AAP for the Lok Sabha polls, officially became a member of the BJP.
He joined the party in a ceremony attended by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva, and the party’s national general secretary Vinod Tawde.
Former Congress MLAs Raj Kumar Chauhan, Naseeb Singh, Neeraj Basoya, and former Youth Congress President Amit Malik joined the BJP along with Arvinder Singh Lovely. The joining ceremony took place at the BJP's headquarters in the national capital.
Lovely, who had previously resigned from the Congress and joined the BJP in 2017 before returning to the grand old party in 2018, expressed confidence in the BJP's ability to secure victory in all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and emerge victorious in the national polls.
Speaking after his induction into the BJP, Lovely conveyed optimism about the party's prospects, stating that they have been entrusted with the responsibility to advocate for the people of Delhi under the BJP's banner and the leadership of the Prime Minister.
He voiced his conviction that the BJP would form the government in the country with a significant majority. Additionally, he expressed confidence that the BJP's flag would soon be raised in Delhi as well.
Last month, Lovely declared his intention to abstain from affiliating with any political party subsequent to stepping down from his role as the Delhi Congress chief.
In his resignation letter addressed to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lovely voiced criticism towards Kanhaiya Kumar, the party's candidate from North East Delhi, and Udit Raj, the nominee from North West Delhi, asserting that both individuals were unfamiliar with the Delhi Congress and its policies.
Expressing disillusionment with the internal dynamics of the party, Lovely articulated feeling "handicapped" due to his inability to function within the existing framework. He highlighted instances of interference by the party's general secretary in-charge and the formation of an alliance with AAP in Delhi as significant points of contention.
Similarly, in their resignation letters, Naseeb Singh and Neeraj Basoya echoed Lovely's sentiments, condemning the Congress for its decision to forge an alliance with AAP in Delhi.
