In a bid to appeal to auto drivers in Delhi ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced five key guarantees on Tuesday. Notably, these include a ₹1 lakh financial support for the marriage of daughters and a ₹10 lakh life insurance coverage for auto drivers.
“Yesterday, I had a meeting with auto drivers at my home. Today, I had come to have lunch at Navneet's (auto driver) home. I want to make five announcements for auto drivers. In February (2025), when we will come to power again, then we will implement these five announcements,” Kejriwal said.
AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal pledged that the AAP government will provide ₹1 lakh for the marriage of the daughters of all auto drivers. Additionally, Kejriwal promised an allowance of ₹2,500 on Diwali and Holi to help purchase school uniforms.
“Third, the government will provide life insurance worth ₹10 lakh and accident insurance worth ₹5 lakh,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal further assured auto drivers that their children would receive free coaching, and announced the relaunch of the “PoochO” app. This app enables users to access a database developed by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Model Transit System, where they can view registered auto drivers' mobile numbers and book rides. The AAP, led by Kejriwal, is aiming for a fourth consecutive term in Delhi, following a landslide victory in the 2020 elections, where it defeated the BJP by winning 62 out of 70 Assembly seats.
The party's campaign has focused on the alleged failure of the BJP-led Centre in maintaining law and order in Delhi, highlighting the increasing incidents of extortion and gun violence.
The AAP has been campaigning vigorously on the alleged failure of the BJP-led Centre to maintain law and order in Delhi, citing the rise in incidents of extortion and gun violence. In response, the BJP has accused the AAP of corruption and mismanagement, attributing the city's pollution issues to the party's alleged misgovernance.
Earlier, the BJP gave the slogan "Ab Nahi Sahenge, Badal Kar Rahenge" (won't tolerate now, will bring the change), asserting to end the AAP rule.
