The Delhi High Court's remarks are certainly stern, highlighting the critical issue of educational neglect affecting over 2 lakh students in the national capital. The failure to provide textbooks and adequate infrastructure to students, especially in MCD schools, is a matter of serious concern that needs urgent attention.
The court's observation about Arvind Kejriwal's continued tenure despite being in jail reflects his stance on undermining public service over personal interests. It came down heavily on the political leaders for putting personal interests above the welfare of citizens and took serious note of the neglect suffered especially in crucial sectors like education.
This development underscores the need for prompt and effective action from the concerned authorities to address the deficiencies in the education system and ensure that every student has access to quality education and necessary resources.
The Delhi High Court criticised the Delhi government, stating that its focus seems to be solely on acquiring and maintaining power. The court emphasised that it would not tolerate delays in providing essential resources like notebooks to students, asserting that such neglect cannot be allowed. Furthermore, the court pointed out that it's the government's decision to allow the Chief Minister to remain in office while being in jail, urging them to make a conscious choice regarding this matter.
The High Court emphasised that this situation is not about ego battles but about prioritising the national interest. It expressed dismay at the government's apparent indifference towards the welfare of children, accusing them of treating students as commodities for political bargaining. The court highlighted the unacceptable conditions in which students are forced to study, such as in tin sheds, due to administrative negligence.
Furthermore, the Acting Chief Justice criticised Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, accusing him of ignoring the students' plight and displaying insincere concern. The court concluded by condemning the government's single-minded pursuit of power, asserting that their actions represent the epitome of arrogance in wielding authority.
The court clarified that its intervention in matters like distributing books and uniforms to students is not typical, but it is compelled to act because of the evident failure in governance. It criticised the government's apparent obsession with power, questioning the extent to which they seek to control. The court suggested that the government's relentless pursuit of power might actually be hindering its acquisition, emphasising that the root of the problem lies in their fixation on power rather than serving the people effectively.
The court issued a stern warning to the government, cautioning them against underestimating its authority. It emphasised that the court is not to be taken lightly and that the government should not undervalue its ability to enforce justice. The court reiterated that children are not to be treated as bargaining chips, emphasising that their well-being is of paramount importance and not something to be traded or negotiated.
