On Thursday morning, Indian security forces gunned down two militants of the national socialist council of Nagaland-Khaplang or NSCN-K (Yung Aung faction) in an encounter with near Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district.
Indian army patrol unit has launched an operation at around 10 am acting on a tipoff from intelligence agencies about the movement of armed insurgents. The patrol unit has reportedly come under fire close to a forested area near Langkhu village inside Myanmar territory adjacent to Pongchau Circle.
As per the statement released by the Defence Ministry, the patrol unit after spotting a suspicious movement some armed individuals challenged them. The armed insurgents started indiscriminately firing at the security personnel with high-calibre weapons. The Indian army unit siftly responsed to the firing forcing the armed insurgents to escape into the deep jungle for cover.
Subsequently, the patrol unit conducted a thorough search of the area, but the armed group has fled the area by then, stated the ministry release.
But the press release of the NSCN (YA) confirmed the death of two of its cadres- Nyaklung and Neyung Aung.
Indian forces suspect this to be a case of the militant group infiltration attempt or an regrouping manoeuvere. The patrol unit carried subsequent searches in the dense forest terrain. But as per latest news no additional casualties or recoveries are reported.
