The Army has taken strict action against former soldiers accused of spreading false information and harming its reputation on social media. Sources say that Army headquarters has directed all commands to closely monitor social media platforms and file FIRs against any ex-servicemen involved in such activities.
A former soldier has been booked in Jaipur after an FIR was registered against him for repeatedly making allegations about the army and its operations through a YouTube channel. Reports indicate that the army is keeping an eye on several ex-servicemen in different cities for similar activities. Some of them were reportedly dismissed from service due to disciplinary issues. To address this issue, the Army headquarters has instructed all its commands to keep a close watch on social media, identify individuals spreading false information, and take legal action against them.
Commands have been asked to collect detailed information about such ex-servicemen, confirm their identities, and file FIRs under the appropriate legal sections. The Army Headquarters will closely monitor these cases to ensure strict action is taken. Last year, the Army’s AG Branch issued an advisory reminding all commands about the Army Pension Regulation Act-2008. It stated that the competent authority has the right to withhold or reduce the pension of any ex-serviceman found guilty of serious misconduct. The advisory also stressed that receiving a pension depends on maintaining good conduct even after retirement.
Internal reports from the Army reveal that some former soldiers are actively using social media to spread negative propaganda against the Army. They mainly criticise service life and working conditions, using language that has been flagged as harmful and inflammatory. There is increasing concern that these misleading messages could affect public opinion and be misused by adversaries to threaten India’s national security.
