Army explores military-grade 5G, 6G apps, focuses on emerging technologies

According to sources, the Indian Army is actively engaged in the development of military-grade 5G and 6G telecom applications as part of a forward-looking initiative to meet future warfare requirements and deploy essential technologies for improved overall efficiency
The Army is currently engaged in the proactive development of military-grade software featuring decision-making tools and predictive analytics enabled by Artificial Intelligence. The objective is to improve intelligence and operational efficacy, according to official sources.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is collaborating with the Indian Army in the development of software and technologies.
As per the source, "the Indian Army has set up 5G labs, and the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering in Madhya Pradesh is positioned to serve as a 6G test bed."
The statement asserts that ongoing efforts are directed toward developing military-grade 5G and 6G applications aligned with future warfare needs. Sources highlight the transformation of the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering into a center for AI research and development.
They further noted that notable outcomes from the institute include innovations like the Situational Awareness Module for the Army (SAMA) and advanced pattern recognition software for satellite imagery analysis.
Officials have announced the implementation of multiple initiatives with the objective of enhancing the skillsets of Army personnel in the latest advancements within the digital and cyber security domains.
The Indian Army is actively engaged in upskilling personnel with the latest advancements in digital and cybersecurity. Specific training activities, such as digital video/image and CCTV forensics, are underway at the National Science University and joint IT staff training at the National Informatics Centre.
Army-developed software for reading the Enemy’s Electronic Order of Battle (ORBAT) and pattern recognition is already operational. The integration of Army expertise into Security Operations Centre 2.0 enhances the management of cyber threats, supported by cutting-edge cybersecurity and cyber forensics tools.
Initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Yojana incorporate Army logistic infrastructure needs, aiming for faster mobilization and efficient logistics supply through national infrastructure. The Army's commendable efficiency and transparency in procurement processes are reflected in its use of the government e-marketplace portal.
The Army's healthcare system has undergone a digital revolution with the 'Dhanwantri' software, linking over 110 military hospitals for improved medical services. Telemedicine services extend medical support to remote posts.
