Three days after the terror attack in Pahalgam, the Pakistan Army opened fire from several posts along the Line of Control (LoC) throughout the night, an unusual incident not seen in recent times, as per the sources. The Indian Army responded to the firing, and no casualties have been reported on the Indian side. "The Pakistani Army fired small arms along the border. Our troops responded. Further details are being ascertained. There have been no casualties," stated an official.
In February, the Pakistani Army fired small arms at an Indian post along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district. India responded to the firing, though no injuries or damage were reported on either side. This incident took place shortly before the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 tourists. Since then, tensions have been high, with both India and Pakistan on alert. Pakistan has even declared a no-fly zone over the Arabian Sea, possibly linked to the Jammu and Kashmir attack and a missile test expected today.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, a gunfight broke out on Friday between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district. Sources say one fleeing terrorist was injured, along with two security personnel assigned to a senior police officer.
Security forces began a cordon and search operation after receiving intelligence about terrorists hiding in the forests of the Bazipora area. The operation quickly escalated into a gunfight when the terrorists opened fire. On Thursday, during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district, a Special Forces soldier lost his life while battling alongside other security personnel.
After the Pahalgam attacks, security forces initiated a large-scale search to apprehend the five to six terrorists responsible for the mass killings. They have released images of three suspects, Asif Fuji, Suleman Shah and Abu Talha, who are believed to be involved in the attack. They have offered a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh for anyone who can provide reliable information leading to their capture.
During this unrest, on Friday, April 25, 2025, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi arrived in Kashmir to assess the security situation following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam earlier this week, which claimed the lives of 26 people, most of them tourists, officials said. They added that Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar, the Army’s Northern Command chief, accompanied him during the visit.
According to officials, the Chief of Army Staff will conduct a detailed review of the security landscape in Jammu and Kashmir, with senior Army commanders scheduled to brief him on the current situation and the measures taken after Tuesday’s attack. His visit comes shortly after Pakistan opened small arms fire along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, less than a day earlier.
