Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who is facing a big controversy because of a remark he made about the Brahmin community, has said that his family and friends are getting death and rape threats.
Kashyap had made a harsh comment about the community while replying to someone on social media. On Friday evening, the 52-year-old filmmaker shared a statement on Instagram, saying that his comment was "taken out of context." "This is my apology, not for my post but for that one line taken out of context and the brewing hatred. No action or speech is worth your daughter, family, friends, and colleagues getting rape and death threats from the kingpins of sanskar," he said.
"I won't take back what I said. Abuse me all you want. My family didn't say anything. If you want an apology, here it is," Kashyap added. In another Instagram Story, Kashyap posted a screenshot of the comment that sparked controversy. "Everyone has read the response and they're all outraged as well. At least look at the context before you write," Anurag Kashyap wrote in the caption. Kashyap has been actively sharing posts on social media about the upcoming film "Phule", a biopic based on social reformers Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule.
The movie, starring Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa as the reformist couple, was originally set to release last week but will now hit theatres on April 25. After the trailer of "Phule" was released online on April 10, some people from the Brahmin community raised concerns, saying they have been shown in a negative way.
