Anthropic, a major US-based artificial intelligence company, has officially opened its new office in Bengaluru, India, marking a key step in its expansion into one of its most important global markets. India is now the second-largest market for Anthropic’s AI assistant, Claude — especially for tasks like building software or solving technical problems. The company also announced a wide range of new partnerships with organisations in different sectors across India to help promote AI in useful and responsible ways.
The Bengaluru office is Anthropic’s second location in Asia-Pacific, after Tokyo, and is seen as a sign of the company’s long-term commitment to the Indian technology ecosystem. The office will be led by Irina Ghose, a tech industry veteran who will oversee the company’s efforts in the country. Anthropic says this office will hire local talent and provide deep expertise in AI to help businesses, startups, and digital companies use Claude to build solutions that make sense for the Indian market.
India has become a central market for Claude, with nearly half of the usage coming from Indian developers and companies who use the AI for technical tasks such as application building and system modernisation. Since Anthropic first announced its expansion plans in October 2025, its run-rate revenue in India has doubled, showing strong commercial growth and interest from Indian businesses.
Along with the office opening, Anthropic revealed a number of partnerships with Indian organisations that span the enterprise, education, and agriculture sectors. These collaborations are meant to help spread the use of AI in ways that are ethical, responsible, and suited to local needs.
Some of the notable enterprise partnerships include:
- Air India — The national airline is using Claude Code to speed up custom software development and improve efficiency in its technical workflows.
- Cred — A financial technology company, Cred has experienced twice as fast delivery of new features and a 10% improvement in test coverage using Claude Code in its development processes.
- Cognizant — The global tech services firm has adopted Claude tools for up to 350,000 employees worldwide, using them to modernise legacy systems and support its technology services.
There are also partnerships with Indian startups that are using Claude in innovative ways. For example:
- Razorpay integrates Claude into its risk and financial systems.
- Enterpret and Emergent use Claude to power AI assistants and speed up growth, including achieving significant annual revenue.
These collaborations show how AI tools are being used not just for simple chatbot tasks, but for solving real business problems and building advanced software.
Anthropic has emphasised that the Bengaluru office will focus on offering applied AI expertise — that means helping organisations build AI systems that are practical, scalable, and tailored to India’s specific needs. This includes assisting large enterprises, digital natives (companies built around digital technology), and startups in the design, development, and scaling of solutions using Claude.
By having a local presence, Anthropic hopes to work closely with Indian companies and users to create AI tools that fit the Indian business environment and the challenges businesses face locally. Recruitment of Indian talent is part of this effort to ensure the technology adapts to local needs, as well as to help train more experts who understand how AI can be used responsibly in India.
The partnerships announced also reflect Anthropic’s larger goal of encouraging responsible adoption of AI in India. This means ensuring that AI tools are used ethically and for tasks that benefit people, businesses, and society — such as education, enterprise growth, or agriculture — rather than just for basic automation.
The range of sectors involved — from aviation and finance to startups — shows that Claude’s technology is being used in varied and complex environments. It also shows that Indian developers and companies are eager to explore sophisticated AI applications rather than just simple chat or search tools.
The arrival of Anthropic’s office in Bengaluru signals greater competition and investment in India’s AI landscape. As one of the fastest-growing markets for AI usage, India is drawing global firms like Anthropic to expand their presence locally. This can lead to more opportunities for Indian developers, startups, and enterprises to work with advanced AI tools and integrate these technologies into their products and services.
Overall, Anthropic’s expansion into India — through its new office and partnerships — highlights the country’s growing importance in the global AI space. With continued growth in usage and strong collaboration with Indian organisations, AI tools like Claude are set to play a bigger role in shaping technology adoption across industries in India.
