Prime Minister Narendra Modiji,
I know that you, many ministers and officers have taken many steps. I don’t think I can add much. However, I am ready to chip in and support if my services could be used. Here are some thoughts. The thoughts are not in any particular order.
- The response of all the states must be the same, even if the cases are very less. The issue is time and we can’t buy time! Thus, please make sure to form a central team that has memberships from each state.
- Best practices need to be disseminated fast, very fast. This requires a chain of command. Army doctors are the best to help and lead this.
- Ask all the states and countries to make an inventory of medical instruments and supplies. The important thing is that the strength of a state depends on the weakest community. We have to address the weaker and vulnerable communities – inside India and outside India too. The appreciable thing is that SAARC countries have been brought together.
- Please ask all countries to evolve the same methods to quarantine. All countries must share the same methods and work in unison. You can do this. These help in analytics and quickly chase the spread. With many variables, we can not analyse the situation properly. Because of this, we lose the idea of best practices! India can lead this with so many of us technology people here.
- It is important to also tell every citizen that we have enough food. We still grow food and feed everyone in the world. Leaders need to tell this.
- Identify empty houses in every city. We cannot host people under observation in hospitals. We can keep the suspected people in these houses so that they have some freedom and do not run away because of fear. Further, there would be a massive number of Indians coming from Europe and the USA. They are our children and Indians. We have to get them in at any point in time. Therefore, it is important to keep them near so that they are safe and we are also safe. This is psychologically very important!
- Communities need to be entrusted to watch all those who are suspected and those who are in the houses where they are kept in observation. We have to reduce the stress on the health care workers.
- All the elderly people above 60 years should NOT come out! Young people in the community should deliver what the elderly want. Youth has immunity and agility.
NOTE: We cannot accept what Italy did to elders saying NO treatment. We care for everyone, more for kids and elderly.
- Graduates (MS/PhDs) should be called to help health workers. Because we can update them and they can take instructions. Hopefully, these people can understand and can tell others who are not so educated. Every town must have a group of such people who can explain what's happening, what should be done, etc. At this hour, we can’t expect Doctors & healthcare workers to keep explaining to every patient.
- We have to identify open spaces away from the cities for moderate symptoms people who are tested positive. We can build tents and keep them away from the congested cities.
- Awareness about the situation is required but not panic. For this, we need a group of motivated individuals who can explain and provide solace and reduce anxiety.
- We HAVE to tell people that we will SURVIVE. This is just a two-week phenomenon if we were to follow the guidelines well. This information can only be given through a personal touch. This could be done by the selected MS/PhD volunteers. Because they would be respected and they would be responsible. Indians are emotional and we Indians value personal relationships. That’s why any number of TV ads will not bring the effect we want NOW.
- You are doing a great job, sir, I may be ignorant. However, if not yet done, please create a body specifically to face this and all decisions should be centralized with membership from each state without fail. There should be subgroups that can deal with various wings like, ports, sanitization, health care, critical care, etc., again memberships from each state.
- The decision should percolate fast. There will be changes in decisions because of real-time data thus it should be communicated fast. The list should be on an easily available portal and the changes should be done asap to communicate to everyone involved.
- The HEATMAP is very essential. We can implement this in just ONE day with 3-4 software engineers. We can design things fast and get it up and working.
