Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday instructed the Delhi Police to take strict measures against networks facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas into India. Emphasising that the issue is a matter of national security, he stressed the need for a firm approach. During a meeting to assess the law-and-order situation in the national capital, Shah also directed authorities to take action against police stations and subdivisions that have consistently underperformed.
Shah highlighted that eliminating interstate gangs in Delhi should be a top priority for the police. He stressed the need for a "top to bottom and bottom to top approach" in handling narcotics cases and called for the complete dismantling of drug networks.
"Strict action should be taken against the entire network that helps Bangladeshi and Rohingya intruders enter the country, get their documents made and facilitate their stay here. The issue of illegal intruders is also related to national security, and it should be dealt with strictly. They should be identified and deported," he stated during the meeting.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Home Minister Ashish Sood, Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Union Home Minister highlighted the BJP's return to power in Delhi after 26 years and underlined that the "double-engine" government would accelerate efforts to develop and secure the capital, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
He clarified that Delhi Police approval would no longer be needed for construction-related matters. He urged the Delhi government to appoint special prosecutors to ensure the swift resolution of cases related to the 2020 riots.
"The Delhi Police should start the recruitment process for additional posts soon. DCP-level officers should visit police stations, organise public hearing camps and solve their problems," he conveyed.
The Union Home Minister suggested forming new security committees in JJ clusters to enhance the safety of women and children.
He directed the Delhi Police to identify areas with frequent traffic congestion and asked the police commissioner and chief secretary to collaborate on a swift solution.
Additionally, he urged the Delhi government to create a 'Monsoon Action Plan' to address water-logging issues.
