AMD, Delhi University partner to train 10,000 students in AI and semiconductor technologies

Chipmaker AMD and the University of Delhi have partnered to train around 10,000 students in artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductor technologies over the next year. The partnership will provide students practical exposure to technologies used in the industry and help them move beyond classroom-based learning.
The two institutions announced the collaboration on Thursday after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Under the agreement, AMD will introduce its AI Engage Developer Program at the University of Delhi. The programme will focus on developing industry-relevant skills among students and preparing them for careers in the fast-growing AI and semiconductor sectors.
The initiative will give students and faculty access to AMD’s AI tools, learning resources and technical programmes. Participants will get hands-on exposure to AMD’s open-source ROCm AI software platform. They will also receive developer GPU cloud credits that can support practical AI development and experimentation.
Through these resources, students will be able to build, test and deploy AI applications using tools similar to those used in the industry. The programme will also provide access to AMD’s AI learning curriculum and technical workshops. Students and faculty can use open software ecosystems and cloud-based GPU resources to gain practical experience while working on AI projects.
Jaya Jagadish, Country Head & SVP Engineering, AMD India, said the partnership would help provide students with early exposure to the tools and platforms used for real-world AI development.
“India has the talent and the ambition to lead the next wave of AI innovation. The opportunity now is to give students early access to the platforms and tools that power real-world AI development,” said Jaya Jagadish, Country Head & SVP Engineering, AMD India.
She said the collaboration would help students make the shift from understanding AI concepts in theory to developing practical solutions. The programme is expected to allow learners to work directly with AI technologies and gain experience that can support their future careers.
The partnership also reflects the growing role of industry-academia collaborations in building a skilled technology workforce. By bringing industry tools and training into the academic environment, AMD and the University of Delhi aim to help students develop skills that go beyond traditional classroom education.
Prof Yogesh Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Delhi University, said the partnership would help prepare graduates with practical AI capabilities and strengthen the talent pipeline for India’s digital economy.

The programme will cover both AI and semiconductor technologies, giving students exposure to two areas that are becoming increasingly important to India’s technology sector. With access to technical workshops, learning material, software platforms and GPU-based cloud resources, participants will be able to experiment with AI applications in a practical setting.
The training will also benefit faculty members by providing them with access to AMD’s technical resources and learning ecosystem. This can support the integration of industry-focused AI learning into academic programmes and help educators guide students through practical applications.
The collaboration will create a stronger pool of AI developers and researchers in the country. Training around 10,000 students over the next year will give a large number of learners an opportunity to gain direct experience with modern AI computing tools.
AMD and the University of Delhi expect the initiative to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements. The partnership will focus on practical learning, experimentation and application development. It will also help students understand how AI tools can be used to create and deploy solutions in real-world environments.
