Amazon has permanently banned 600 Chinese brands due to review fraud, according to news reports. This was also confirmed by Amazon, which said the ban extends across three thousand different seller accounts.
Since early 2021, Amazon has banned many Chinese third-party sellers, causing a wave of panic in China's lucrative cross-border ecommerce industry. These 3,000 accounts are permanently terminated, Tai said, as they have repeatedly abused the reviews function after Amazon issued several warnings, according to Chinese Publication Sina Tech.
RavPower, Mpow, Aukey, Choetech, TaoTronics, and Vava disappeared from the platform without warning, and now, the Andy Jassy-led firm has revealed the final results of its five-month-long crackdown. The 600 brands that have received the company's wrath have done so because they were found to have "knowingly, repeatedly, and significantly" violated Amazon's policies, particularly the ones relating to review abuse.
According to a statement, the online shopping site has worked hard to grow its customer base, and that customer reviews have played a critical role in doing so. In the event that any entity violates the rules surrounding these reviews, it stands to face legal action, suspension, and bans. Moreover, the firm promises to keep enhancing its abuse detection capabilities as well as acting against 'bad actors.'
This information was first revealed by The South China Morning Post, during an interview with an Amazon Asia VP. Several of these brands have previously been criticized for engaging in questionable practices such as offering freebies in exchange for false reviews.
The Wall Street Journal published a report by Nicole Nguyen highlighting Rav Power's practice of offering gift cards to buyers and instructing them to post fake reviews about their products on Amazon in order to redeem them. The move follows Amazon's 2016 decision to stop incentivizing its sellers.
Some brands, however, still use the same trick, disguising these incentives as VIP testing programs or extended warranties. In addition, some brands offer incentives to people who leave negative reviews, asking them to take them down.
The majority of Chinese brands are likely to find an alternative method of selling their products to Amazon customers even if Amazon says it has banned them from its platform. There are still some Aukey earbuds available on Amazon, and you can also find Rav Power and Choetech products there.
