National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval participated in the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) National Security Advisors' meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia, where he discussed contemporary security challenges, particularly focusing on issues related to information and communication technology (ICT) and terrorism. Doval highlighted the importance of collective action within the BRICS framework to address these threats.
He also advocated for reforms in multilateral institutions, arguing that current global frameworks are inadequate for addressing the complex challenges of the modern world.
"The wide participation in the meeting today testifies to the fact that there is an urgent need to reform multilateralism if we are to restore credibility," he said.
The BRICS National Security Advisors reviewed urgent global security issues, such as the increasing threat of cyberattacks and terrorism, and explored possible strategies for coordinated action within the BRICS framework. Doval emphasised that joint efforts were essential to tackle these challenges and maintain global stability.
Doval's comments were made during the first session of the three-day conclave, ahead of the annual BRICS summit, which is set to be held in Kazan, Russia, next month. The summit, scheduled for 22-24 October, will see the participation of leaders from the BRICS nations, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Doval had a brief interaction with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The two officials are expected to hold a bilateral meeting on Thursday to discuss India-China relations and other regional matters.
Russia is hosting the summit in Kazan from October 22 to 24.
