Air India announced on July 19th that it would conduct a relief flight from Mumbai to transport passengers bound for the US who were stranded at Krasnoyarsk International Airport following an emergency landing. After receiving regulatory approval, Air India's relief flight departed from Mumbai and is expected to arrive at Krasnoyarsk International Airport at 8 pm today, as per the airline's statement.
"An Air India team, comprising crew and security personnel, is on the flight to offer assistance to passengers and staff at Krasnoyarsk International Airport (KJA) as needed. The ferry flight is equipped with essential supplies and ample food for all passengers. The aircraft aims to evacuate all passengers and crew from KJA at the earliest opportunity," the airline announced via Twitter.
Air India has provided helpline numbers for the relatives of stranded passengers.
The San Francisco-bound Air India flight from Delhi was diverted to Russia on 18th July due to a suspected issue in the cargo hold area, according to the airline. Air India has activated local support to aid stranded passengers, who are required to remain in the terminal building due to the absence of Russian visas as mandated by authorities.
Air India stated that "food and beverage amenities at the terminal, which were closed for the evening, have now opened, and meals are being provided to all passengers."
However, contradicting the airline's statement, one of the stranded passengers expressed dissatisfaction, saying, "no food, information, updates" had been given to them. Taking to social media, the passenger posted on X, stating, "Despite their claims, we are not taken care of. We feel stranded at the airport. We have no food, information, updates."
On board the flight are 225 passengers and 19 crew members. In a previous incident in June, an Air India flight bound for London received a bomb threat. Despite the threat, authorities found no explosives or bombs on board. A spokesperson from Cochin International Airport reported that a man suspected of making the threatening call had been apprehended by authorities.
