AICTE introduces YASHASVI scholarship to promote core engineering branches

The Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Professor TG Sitharam, officially inaugurated the "Young Achievers' Scholarship and Holistic Academic Skills Venture Initiative (YASHASVI) Scheme 2024" on Friday. The scheme targets students pursuing degrees or diplomas in Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering (CCEEM).
According to a press release from the AICTE, Professor Sitharam underscored the scheme's objective to promote core engineering branches during the launch event. He highlighted the crucial role these disciplines play in advancing manufacturing industries and emphasised the importance of supporting students in these fields through scholarships and academic initiatives.
He remarked that the YASHASVI initiative aims to support high-achieving students pursuing technical education in key branches of engineering such as Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering. The scholarship programme is intended to incentivise talented students to enrol in these disciplines at AICTE-approved technical institutions.
Highlighting the pivotal role of core engineering sectors in India's development, he expressed that these disciplines hold significant potential to elevate India's stature as a global technology leader. AICTE's ongoing efforts focus on enhancing the quality of core engineering education and expanding opportunities for students in these fields.
The Chairman praised the Council's initiatives aimed at strengthening core engineering education and enhancing employment prospects for students, emphasising the importance of such endeavours in driving India's technological advancement and industrial growth.
According to the release, Vice Chairman Dr Abhay Jere and Member Secretary Professor Rajive Kumar were also present at the event.
The scholarship scheme, named YASHASVI, will annually benefit 5,000 students, divided equally between degree and diploma programmes. Degree students will receive Rs 18,000 per year for a maximum of four years, while diploma students will receive Rs 12,000 per year for up to three years. The scholarships will be disbursed directly to students through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Eligibility for the scholarship is based on academic merit. Degree students will be selected based on their 12th-grade qualifications, while diploma students will be assessed on their 10th-grade qualifications.
To renew the scholarship annually, students must submit their passing certificate or mark sheet along with a letter from the Head of their Institution confirming their enrolment.
Applications for the YASHASVI scholarship will be invited once a year. Eligible candidates are required to apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) once the application process commences.
