China-run Global Times has begun a campaign asking companies not to consider India as a manufacturing destination after a riot reported in iPhone manufacturing Wistron company' plant in Kolar, Karnataka. At the same time, there is suspicion of Chinese hand behind the protest.
In what seems to also be a threat to firms for leaving China to set up factories in countries like India, Qingqing Chen – a chief reporter of the Communist Party of China’s Global Times, on Sunday said that the destruction of Wistron’s plant in India was a potential risk for manufacturers who are moving their production lines out of China where they have the most stable labour market.
Global Times in their report says “Due to the poor local security situation in India, Wistron's factory was an obvious target for attacks.” Also, without directly asking companies to move out of India to China, this propaganda news outlet’s report goes like “Following the video surfacing on social media, Chinese netizens called for Apple to choose China as its main manufacturing hub".
"Factories in China are safest to invest in. The probability of smashing and burning in China is extremely low," commented a Chinese netizen named as ilife on Sina-Weibo."Move to China, China welcomes you!" said another Chinese netizen named as fangchunchun.
Fingers are being pointed towards China over its alleged involvement in creating trouble against firms that are shifting business out of the country.
The propagandist of China’s Communist Party, subtly threatening the other partners of Apple Inc such as Foxconn, asked whether these companies now regret about moving their production facilities to India. Chen basically hinted that companies that move their production lines out if China may face such vandalism and loss to business. Chen’s tweet hinted at China’s role in causing such deliberate disturbances inside India to disturb the prevailing stability and investment climate in the country.
It is notable here that Wistron is a Taiwanese company, and China considers Taiwan a threat.
Following the COVID outbreak and China’s aggression with neighbours, many companies are looking towards India as an option to invest. Therefore, China will further try to project India as a lawless nation. India government will have a tougher job in finding out Chinese moles instigating Chaos in India.
