In a distressing incident that has deeply offended Hindu sentiments, over 53 cattle carcasses were discovered across three locations, including Seoni in Madhya Pradesh. These carcasses were not only recklessly abandoned but also thrown into the sacred waters of the Wainganga River, exacerbating community outrage.
Upon receiving complaints, local police promptly called in a veterinary doctor to examine the remains. Following the inspection, the carcasses and related remains were buried, and an immediate investigation was initiated.
According to reports, approximately 19 cow carcasses were found dumped in the river, while more than 32 cows were slaughtered in nearby areas. Many of the cows were found mutilated, with parts of their bodies scattered in the forest and their heads severed.
Local residents assisted the police in recovering and burying the carcasses, describing the incident as uncommon for the region. Some speculated that the remains could have been swept into various locations by the river. There were suggestions that the recent crackdown on slaughterhouses may have prompted the disposal of cow remains to avoid detection by authorities, although investigations into the exact cause are ongoing.
Superintendent of Police Rakesh Sinha assured the public of heightened efforts against cow smugglers, stating, "We are closely monitoring them, and those engaged in illegal smuggling have been apprehended." Outraged locals have demanded swift action to identify and prosecute those responsible.
A local Hindu activist attributed the timing of the incident to recent Bakrid celebrations among the minority community, suggesting an attempt to provoke Hindus. He called for a CBI inquiry and severe penalties for the perpetrators, advocating for decisive measures including bulldozing. He warned of widespread protests if these demands were not met.
"We are investigating the matter from all perspectives and will soon identify and apprehend those responsible," stated SP Sinha.
Despite challenges posed by recent rains, efforts to clear all remnants from the river are ongoing. Seoni Collector Kshitij Singhal acknowledged that the administration is conducting a thorough inquiry and has pledged severe penalties for any involved parties.
Alok Dubey, the BJP district president, condemned the incident as "cruel and reprehensible." He assured that senior party leaders had been informed and discussions with officials were underway.
Dubey highlighted the significant distress caused to the Hindu community, alleging that the incident was orchestrated by antisocial elements to disrupt district harmony.
