ADNOC Gas Plc has secured a significant long-term deal to supply liquefied natural gas to Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, further strengthening energy ties between the UAE and India. Under this 14-year sales and purchase agreement (SPA), valued between $7 billion and $9 billion, Indian Oil will receive up to 1.2 million tonnes of LNG per year, with deliveries set to begin in 2026.
This agreement transforms the earlier Heads of Agreement between the two parties into a formal Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA), with initial deliveries scheduled for 2026. ADNOC Gas CEO Fatema Al Nuaimi stressed the significance of this deal in helping India achieve its target of raising natural gas consumption to 15% of its primary energy mix by 2030. She also underscored the company's dedication to supplying lower-carbon energy solutions.
ADNOC Gas will supply the LNG from its Das Island facility, which is among the world's longest-running LNG plants and has a production capacity of 6 million tonnes per year. The facility has proven reliable by delivering more than 3,500 LNG cargoes since its operations began.
This agreement is part of ADNOC Gas's ongoing strategy of securing long-term supply contracts, with deals ranging from 0.4 to 1.2 million tonnes per year for durations of up to 14 years. These agreements have reinforced the company's standing as a key LNG supplier to expanding Asian markets.
Chief Executive Officer of ADNOC Gas, Ahmed Alebri, remarked on the agreement, “We are pleased to announce this long-term LNG sale, further strengthening the long-standing partnership with IOCL. We look forward to expanding our collaboration and take pride in the knowledge that ADNOC Gas’ LNG exports will further support the development of IOCL and contribute to India’s growth story.”
This deal highlights ADNOC Gas’s capability to cater to the rising global demand for LNG, which plays a crucial role in the ongoing energy transition.
