Adani Power has taken another step into the nuclear energy sector by setting up a new subsidiary, Rawatbhata-Raj Atomic Energy. The company announced on Tuesday that this move is part of its broader plan to strengthen its presence in atomic energy through its existing unit.
The new entity was incorporated on April 20 and will function as a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Atomic Energy Ltd. This parent arm is fully owned by Adani Power. The company stated that the newly formed unit will focus on the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity produced from nuclear sources.
This development builds on the group’s earlier entry into the nuclear energy space. It also reflects progress in its long-term plans as India slowly opens up the sector for private participation. Until now, nuclear power in the country has largely been controlled by state-run agencies.
The company also confirmed that the subsidiary has been set up with an authorised capital of Rs 5 lakh. It will remain entirely within the Adani Group structure.
India is actively working to increase its nuclear power capacity as part of its clean energy goals. With rising demand for sustainable energy, the government has started creating space for private companies to explore opportunities in this segment. At present, the sector is dominated by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd.
Earlier this year, in February, Adani Power had already established Adani Atomic Energy Ltd. This unit was created specifically to handle nuclear power generation, transmission, and distribution. With this step, the company became one of the first private utilities to show a clear interest in entering the nuclear energy space after recent policy changes.
The formation of Rawatbhata-Raj Atomic Energy signals a steady expansion of Adani Power’s nuclear ambitions. It highlights the company’s intent to play a larger role in India’s evolving clean energy landscape.
