Telugu actor-turned-politician Vijayashanti has re-embraced the Congress party, formally ending her association with the Bharatiya Janata Party through a public resignation announcement. Upon her return to the Congress party, KC Venugopal, the general secretary, swiftly appointed her as the Chief Coordinator of the Campaign and Planning Committee for the Telangana Assembly polls scheduled for November 30. This move underscores the party's strategic positioning of Vijayashanti in a key role for the upcoming electoral activities in Telangana.
Former BJP Member of Parliament Vijayashanti has officially joined the Congress party, with the induction ceremony taking place in the presence of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge at an event in Hyderabad.
Her return to the Congress aligns with the party's intensified efforts in campaigning for the upcoming 2023 Telangana election, slated for November 30. The strategic timing of her rejoining positions her as a notable participant in the party's endeavours for the electoral contest.
Vijayashanti, a prominent figure in South Indian cinema, commenced her political journey with the BJP in 1997. However, she later parted ways with the party and joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) during the movement for a separate Telangana. Subsequently, she was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009. In 2014 just before Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated and Telangana state was formed, she joined Congress.
In the 2018 Assembly election, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), formerly recognized as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), secured a significant victory by winning 88 out of the 119 seats. This constituted 47.4 percent of the total vote share. In contrast, the Congress lagged behind, securing only 19 seats and a distant second position in the electoral outcome.
The party's commanding performance saw them secure an impressive 88 out of 119 seats, securing nearly half of the total vote share at 47.4 percent. This resounding victory solidified their dominance in the state's political arena, establishing a significant lead over their competitors.
In contrast, the Congress faced a formidable challenge, managing to secure only 19 seats in the same election. The wide margin between the BRS and the Congress highlighted the political landscape's clear preference at that time. As Telangana gears up for the upcoming 2023 Assembly election, the dynamics and strategies of political parties, including recent developments like Vijayashanti's return to Congress, will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the electoral landscape.
