The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) won three of the four key posts in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2026. BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP president Nitin Nabin, congratulated the student outfit on its victory on Saturday.

ABVP’s Yash Dabas won the DUSU president’s post with 24,576 votes. He defeated NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena, who secured 22,523 votes. ABVP also won the secretary and joint secretary posts. Riya Chhawdi was elected secretary, while Lakshya Raj Singh won the joint secretary post.

The vice-president’s post went to an independent candidate, Deepanshu Shokeen, a former NSUI member. He secured 30,615 votes. ABVP’s Ishu Maurya received 16,910 votes, while NSUI candidate Virr Chatrath polled 4,313 votes.

Amit Shah welcomed ABVP’s performance and linked the result to the youth’s support for the organisation’s stated ideology. In a post on X, he said, "Heartfelt congratulations to all the dedicated workers of the ABVP on the splendid victory of @ABVPVoice in the Delhi University Students' Union elections."

"This victory reflects the unwavering faith of the youth in the ABVP's ideology of 'Nation First' and its commitment to student welfare," he asserted. He added, "I am fully confident that the council's workers, drawing new energy from this victory and following the ideals of Swami Vivekananda Ji, will continue to relentlessly advance the cause of student interests and nation-building."

Rajnath Singh also congratulated the ABVP and described the result as a sign of young voters’ faith in the ‘Nation First’ approach. "Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all workers on the splendid success of ABVP in the Delhi University Students' Union elections," he said in a post on X.

Nitin Nabin also welcomed the result. He said the victory reflected the "youth’s continued faith in positive and constructive student politics, rooted in the spirit of 'Nation First', and their strong resolve to contribute to the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat'".

"My best wishes to the victorious candidates and everyone who worked tirelessly to make this victory possible," he said in a post on X.

The DUSU voting was held across 52 centres, which recorded a turnout of 40.46%. The result was declared after 20 rounds of counting. The ABVP’s three victories gave it the president, secretary and joint secretary positions, while Shokeen secured the remaining central post.
