Aaranyak, a leading biodiversity conservation organisation based in Assam, has introduced a new outreach initiative called WeForNature. The program, launched on Sunday, kicked off with a birdwatching event at Garbhanga Reserve Forest in Guwahati. The event was organised in collaboration with the Kamrup East Division of the Assam Forest Department. The initiative aims to promote environmental stewardship and encourage communities to adopt sustainable conservation practices for better human welfare.
The WeForNature initiative is designed to raise awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability and foster a culture of conservation through active community participation. Planned activities include nature walks, eco-talks, discussions on conservation, and nature photography events. These activities aim to engage individuals in meaningful ways to protect the environment and connect with nature.
The inaugural birdwatching event attracted 27 nature enthusiasts, including seasoned birders from across the country. They were joined by nine officials from the forest department, including Rosy Bora, Range Officer of Rani Range. Expert birders such as Udayan Borthakur, Pranjal Mahananda, Devika Rani and Partha Pratim Das led the participants, making the event an enriching experience for everyone involved.
Pranab Goswami, the organising officer at Aaranyak, played a key role in coordinating the event. Speaking about the initiative, Udayan Borthakur, Senior Scientist and Organising Secretary of Aaranyak, remarked that the program is focused on connecting people with nature and building a network of environmentally conscious individuals committed to sustainable living.
Looking ahead, Aaranyak plans to host a series of activities under the WeForNature initiative. By collaborating with local and national organisations, the group aims to expand its efforts in promoting environmental conservation and contributing to human welfare.
