The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday alleged that officials from the Election Commission (EC) arrived at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence at Kapurthala House in Delhi to conduct a search. In a statement, the party claimed that a team of EC officials was present at the premises for inspection.
The development follows the seizure of a private vehicle bearing a "Punjab government" sticker and a state registration number by the Delhi Police a day earlier. The vehicle parked near Punjab Bhawan, was reportedly found loaded with liquor, cash and AAP’s election publicity materials.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has refuted claims of any raid at CM Mann’s residence, clarifying that the poll panel does not conduct investigations.
“Neither EC conducts any raid nor interferes in any investigation. Flying Surveillance Team/FST acted based on a complaint raised on the C-Vigil app, which is open for the public to report on the violations of MCC, if any. Based on this an action was initiated,” an EC official said.
The Election Commission (EC) has clarified that its team was present at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Kapurthala House residence in Delhi to address a complaint filed on the C-Vigil app regarding alleged money distribution. An official stated that such complaints must be resolved within 100 minutes, which necessitated the team’s visit.
Meanwhile, in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to orchestrate AAP’s defeat in the polls.
"Congress is not contesting elections in Delhi to win, but they are collaborating with the BJP so that AAP loses," Kejriwal said in a video address.
Amid the ongoing political tussle ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal appealed to Congress supporters to vote for AAP. He accused Congress leaders of refraining from criticising BJP leaders while consistently targeting AAP. Kejriwal further warned that if the BJP comes to power in Delhi, it would put an end to the welfare schemes introduced by the AAP government.
