In a major development for the opposition INDIA bloc, the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress announced their seat-sharing agreements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Chandigarh, and Goa, expected to take place in April-May this year.
During a press conference, Congress general secretary Mukul Wasnik disclosed that the AAP will contest from three seats in Delhi - New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and East Delhi - while the grand old party will vie for the remaining three seats - Chandni Chowk, North East, and North West Delhi.
The remaining seats in these states will be contested by the Congress. Additionally, Mukul Wasnik stated that the Congress would contest both Lok Sabha seats in Goa and the single seat in Chandigarh in alliance with the AAP.
At a joint press conference held at the Constitution Club of India and attended by senior AAP leaders Sandeep Pathak, Atishi, and Saurabh Bharadwaj, Congress leader Mukul Wasnik announced the seat allocation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat and Haryana.
Wasnik stated that the Congress would contest 24 out of the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, with the AAP fielding candidates in Bharuch and Bhavnagar constituencies. In Haryana, the Congress would contest nine out of the 10 seats, while the AAP would vie for the Kurukshetra Lok Sabha seat.
Mukul Wasnik, addressing the media, stated, "Two days ago, the Congress finalized its alliance in UP with Samajwadi Party. In the last few days, long discussions were held with AAP, following which AAP-Congress has finalized seat-sharing. We are happy that two important partners of the INDIA alliance will fight the election together."
He added, "We will contest the election on different seats, and together we will try to win all the seats being contested under the alliance."
Responding to queries about resentment from party leaders in some of the seats such as Bharuch, Wasnik said all factors have been taken into consideration and finally a decision has been taken. "We firmly believe that the decision will be respected by all the workers of the Congress and AAP," Wasnik said.
The AAP has announced candidates for Bharuch and Bhavnagar Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat. AAP MP Sandeep Pathak stated that “the party joined the alliance because, for AAP, the country is more important. “Pathak highlighted that the alliance was formed with the country's interests in mind amid challenging times. He emphasized that the alliance would disrupt BJP's political equations.
