In a dramatic turn of events, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed that the belongings of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi were forcibly removed from her official residence at 6, Flagstaff Road, following orders from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. The party, led by Arvind Kejriwal, alleged that this action is part of a larger strategy by the BJP to seize control of the Chief Minister's residence.
The Delhi Chief Minister's office issued a statement asserting that the eviction was orchestrated by the BJP, with the intent to reallocate the residence to a party member. "The Chief Minister's residence was vacated under pressure from the BJP, which has been out of power in Delhi for 27 years and is now resorting to such tactics," said senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh.
Footage from the scene depicted officials removing cartons and personal belongings, with the Public Works Department (PWD) arriving to oversee the situation. Singh further alleged that officials had refused to formally allocate the bungalow to Atishi, claiming that the property would be handed over to a prominent BJP figure.
However, sources from the LG office clarified that 6, Flagstaff Road is not officially designated as the Chief Minister's residence. They explained that the property belongs to the PWD, which is responsible for conducting an inventory and reassigning it after it has been vacated. The sources added that former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had not formally transferred the property to the PWD after his departure, raising questions about the process.
Atishi had recently moved her belongings to the Flagstaff Road property after Kejriwal vacated it, despite the fact that her official residence is located at 17 AB Mathura Road. The PWD will assign the bungalow once they complete their assessment.
In response to the situation, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva stated that the residence has been "finally sealed," raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the eviction. "What secrets are hidden in that bungalow that they tried to re-enter it without handing over the keys?" he asked in a video statement. Sachdeva accused AAP of theatrics and insisted that Atishi’s actions were unconstitutional, as she has already been allocated another bungalow.
After stepping down as Chief Minister in September, Arvind Kejriwal has relocated to a property at 5, Ferozeshah Road, previously assigned to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal. The ongoing conflict between AAP and BJP continues to escalate amid these developments, highlighting the political tensions in the capital.
