Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wants to reassure everyone that people of all faiths are safe in the state. He's making it clear that he's committed to the well-being of every single citizen. In a statement to ANI, he emphasised that if Hindus are safe, then Muslims are also secure in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasised the tolerant nature of Hindus, stating that a Muslim family would feel safe living among 100 Hindu families. However, he raised concerns about whether the same level of security could be guaranteed for 50 Hindu families living among 100 Muslim families. He cited historical examples from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan to stress the importance of vigilance in preventing communal conflicts.
"A Muslim family is the safest among a hundred Hindu families. They will have the freedom to practice all their religious deeds. But can 50 Hindus be safe among 100 Muslim families? No. Bangladesh is an example. Before this, Pakistan was an example. What happened in Afghanistan? If there is smoke or someone is being hit, we should be careful before we get hit. That is what needs to be taken care of," CM Yogi stated while counting that his behaviour is equal to everyone.
Chief Minister Yogi asserted that communal riots have stopped in Uttar Pradesh since the BJP came to power in 2017. "In Uttar Pradesh, Muslims are the safest. If Hindus are safe, then they are also safe. If there were riots here in UP before 2017, if Hindu shops were burning, then Muslim shops were also burning. If Hindu houses were burning, then Muslim houses were also burning. And after 2017, the riots stopped," he said further.
Reiterating his role as a yogi, he expressed, "I am a citizen of Uttar Pradesh, and as a Yogi, I wish for everyone's happiness. I believe in everyone’s support and development."
The Chief Minister praised Sanatan Dharma, calling it the oldest religion globally, highlighting that Hindu rulers have historically avoided using force to expand their dominance. "Sanatan Dharma followers see the whole world as a family," he stated.
Speaking about law and order during Ram Navami and Eid, CM Yogi stated that the state has established a standard operating procedure (SOP) to ensure peace. He also pointed to past incidents of violence in West Bengal during Ram Navami, questioning why similar precautions were not taken there.
Addressing the use of tarpaulin to cover mosques during Holi, he emphasised that strict orders prohibit throwing colours at religious sites. However, he also noted that "playing with colors does not harm anyone’s existence." He questioned, "During Muharram, flags cast shadows over Hindu homes near temples. Does that make the house impure?" and added that the administration ensures cleanliness and repainting whenever necessary.
