In a significant blow to international drug trafficking networks, Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the Indian Navy conducted a joint operation off the Porbandar coast, seizing approximately 700 kilograms of illegal drugs. Eight foreign nationals, who claim to be Iranian, were apprehended during the operation.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the operation as a shining example of the government’s commitment to its anti-drug vision. “Pursuing PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision for a drug-free Bharat, our agencies today busted an international drug trafficking cartel and seized over approx. 700 kg of contraband meth in Gujarat,” Shah wrote on X. He further added that the operation demonstrates the seamless coordination among Indian agencies in achieving this goal.
The NCB also shared the success on X, stating, “In alignment with our vision for a drug-free Bharat, NCB successfully dismantled an international drug trafficking cartel today, seizing approximately 700 kg of meth in Gujarat. This joint operation with the Indian Navy and Gujarat Police exemplifies our unwavering commitment and impressive inter-agency collaboration.”
The operation began late last night after an Iranian vessel carrying the drugs was detected entering Indian waters. The Indian Maritime Border Line (IMBL) radar tracked the suspicious boat, allowing authorities to intercept it in the Arabian Sea.
“This operation is the result of months of intelligence gathering and coordinated efforts between Gujarat ATS, NCB, and maritime security agencies, including the Indian Navy. The interception of the Iranian vessel is a significant blow to the operations of international drug cartels in the region,” a senior Gujarat ATS officer said.
This high-seas operation underscores the effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration and India’s determination to combat drug trafficking. It also highlights the unwavering commitment of the authorities to creating a drug-free society, reflecting the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government.
