Seven Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs resigned from the party just days before the Delhi Assembly elections. Six of them were dropped from the list of candidates for the upcoming elections, with the party choosing new candidates for those seats, while the seventh MLA also stepped down from the party. This comes as a significant setback for Arvind Kejriwal.
In a letter to Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the AAP, Palam MLA Bhawna Gaur stated that she was leaving because she no longer had faith in him and the party. She was followed by Madan Lal, a lawmaker from Kasturba Nagar. "I hereby resign from the primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party as I have lost faith in you and the party. Please accept the same," Bhawna Gaur and Madan Lal wrote in two separate letters.
Trilokpuri MLA Rohit Mehraulia, Janakpuri MLA Rajesh Rishi, Kasturba Nagar MLA Madan Lal, and Mehrauli MLA Naresh Yadav, along with Pawan Sharma from Adarsh Nagar and BS Joon from Bijwasan, all resigned from the primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party. Of these MLAs, six did not receive party tickets from the AAP to run in the 2025 Assembly elections. Naresh Yadav, the Mehrauli MLA, was issued a ticket, but he returned it once the accusations against him in the sacrilege case were validated. After that, a new candidate was chosen by the party to succeed him.
The AAP has put forth Mukesh Goel from Adarsh Nagar, Pravin Kumar from Janakpuri, Surendra Bhardwaj from Bijiwasan, Joginder Solanki from Palam, Ramesh Pehlwan from Kasturba Nagar and Anjana Parcha from Trilokpuri, according to the party's candidate list for the Delhi election.
