On June 26, three suspected terrorists affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were killed in a gunfight lasting over six hours in a forest area of Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, according to officials.
The encounter took place in Bajaad village in the Gandoh area began at around 9:50 AM during a coordinated cordon-and-search operation conducted by the police, Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This operation intensified following twin terrorist attacks on June 11 and 12, which resulted in injuries to security personnel, including a policeman.
According to the report, security forces had intensified their anti-terror operations and offered a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to the capture of four Pakistani terrorists believed to have infiltrated the region.
In the operation conducted in Sinoo Panchayat, terrorists hiding in a mud house initiated heavy gunfire against the security forces. This exchange escalated into intense gunfire and several explosions, resulting in the death of one terrorist. Subsequently, two more terrorists were killed during the course of the operation.
According to the report, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition from the slain terrorists, including two M4 carbines and an AK-series assault rifle. While the exact identities and group affiliations of the terrorists were still under investigation, preliminary findings indicated they were likely members of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and had possibly infiltrated from Pakistan.
The encounter, which included the use of an Army helicopter for surveillance, concluded around 4 PM. Security forces continued to conduct thorough searches in the area to ensure no other terrorists were present.
Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu Zone, accompanied by other senior police officials, visited the site to oversee the operation. This incident marks the second significant encounter in the Jammu region this month, following a similar operation on June 11 and 12 in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district, where two Pakistani terrorists and a CRPF jawan were killed.
Authorities attribute the recent increase in terrorist activities in Jammu to efforts by Pakistani handlers aiming to stir unrest and disrupt peace in the region. As a precautionary measure, internet and mobile services have been suspended in Gandoh and nearby areas.
