According to the official announcement published in the Gazette of India by the Union Home Ministry, the powers of the Manipur Legislative Assembly will now be handled by Parliament. This means the state government's authority has been put on hold. The violence in Manipur began on May 3 last year after a rally organised by the All Tribal Students Union (ATSU). The rally was held to oppose the demand for granting Scheduled Tribe status to the Meitei community.
