PM Modi says ‘You’re the President of All of Us’ as Nitin Nabin Takes Charge as BJP’s Youngest National President
Nitin Nabin on Tuesday officially took charge as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the party headquarters in New Delhi. The occasion saw the presence of senior party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. With this appointment, Nabin, aged 45, has become the youngest national president in the history of the BJP, succeeding J P Nadda, who had held the post since January 2020.
Congratulating Nitin Nabin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was pleased to see him elected as the president of the world’s largest political party. He highlighted that the BJP’s internal organisational elections were conducted in a democratic manner and strictly followed the party’s constitution. According to the Prime Minister, this entire process reflected the BJP’s karyakarta-centric ethos, where workers remain at the centre of the party’s functioning.
Addressing Nabin directly, Prime Minister Modi said, “You are the president of all of us. His responsibility is not just to serve the BJP but also coordinate with the NDA allies.” He further praised the new president’s personal qualities, saying that people who have worked with him often speak about his simplicity. “Whoever has come in contact with Nitin Nabin ji speaks of his simplicity. Be it his responsibility as a prabhari or his experience of working with the Bihar government, Nitin Nabin has proved himself in whatever responsibility he was given,” the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Modi also spoke about the importance of the coming years for the country. He said that the next 25 years would be crucial and that the vision of a developed India would take shape during this period. “The coming 25 years are important, and Viksit Bharat would become a reality in this period of time,” he said. Referring to Nabin’s age and background, Modi added, “Nitin ji is himself a millennial. He is from the generation that has seen social, technological and economic changes in India. His generation has seen both radio and AI. He has both the energy of youth and also the vast experience of organisational work.”
Recalling the BJP’s leadership journey over the years, Prime Minister Modi said the party’s tradition of leadership is deeply rooted in values and enriched by experience. He noted that this combination has helped the party move forward with a spirit of service to the nation. The Prime Minister described the BJP’s growth as a journey “from zero to the peak.” He pointed out that the party secured a majority on its own under Rajnath Singh’s leadership, expanded its presence across several states during Amit Shah’s tenure, and returned to power for a third consecutive term under J P Nadda.
The leadership change comes at a significant time for the ruling party, as it prepares for a major organisational overhaul at the national level. This revamp is being planned ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in states such as West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry. As the new national president, Nitin Nabin will play a key role in shaping the party’s strategy and organisation in these states.
Looking further ahead, Nabin will also be responsible for leading the BJP into the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. These elections are expected to take place amid major political and administrative changes, including parliamentary delimitation and the implementation of a 33 per cent women’s quota in Parliament and state Assemblies.
Nitin Nabin brings with him significant administrative and political experience, especially from his time in the Bihar government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He has handled several important ministerial portfolios. He served as the Minister for Road Construction from February 2021 to August 2022 and again from February 2025 to December 2025. Between March 2024 and February 2025, he was in charge of the Urban Development and Housing department, along with the Law and Justice Ministry.
During his ministerial tenure, Nabin focused on infrastructure development, urban housing initiatives, and various welfare measures. His work included schemes for journalists as well as incentive programmes for ASHA and Mamta workers.
Born on May 23, 1980, in Ranchi, Jharkhand, Nitin Nabin comes from a family with a strong political background. He is the son of Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, a senior BJP leader and a four-time Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Patna West. Nabin completed his schooling at St. Michael’s High School in Patna and CSKM Public School in New Delhi.
Nabin’s political journey began early. He entered electoral politics in 2006 after winning a by-election from the Patna West constituency. Following constituency delimitation, he shifted to the Bankipur constituency. He has since been elected five times to the Bihar Legislative Assembly, winning from Bankipur in the 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025 Assembly elections.
With his appointment as national president, the BJP has placed its trust in a relatively young leader who combines organisational experience with administrative exposure. As the party moves into a new phase marked by upcoming elections and structural changes, Nitin Nabin’s leadership will be closely watched within the party and beyond.
