In a significant move to promote Hindi in medical studies, the government of Chhattisgarh plans to launch the MBBS program in Hindi. With the implementation of this policy, Chhattisgarh would be the fourth state after Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Uttrakhand to adopt the policy. Vishnu Deo Sai, chief minister of Chhattisgarh, made the announcement. In an interview with reporters at his home on the occasion of "Hindi Diwas," Sai stated that his government is pleased to carry out PM Modi's proposal to teach medical education in Hindi, which he had stated at a rally in Uttar Pradesh in 2022.
Taking the revolutionary step, Madhya Pradesh became the first Indian state to provide MBBS textbooks in Hindi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the Hindi textbooks on October 16, 2022, which the state government planned to use for medical education in the Hindi language. Announcing the crucial step, Sai said, “The move will benefit students from rural areas since they mostly come from Hindi medium schools and face difficulty in medical courses despite being talented due to the use of English language. Studying in Hindi will strengthen their basics, help them develop a deep understanding of the subject and make them good doctors.”
Uttarakhand became the second state in the country to have introduced Hindi-language MBBS programs in its medical colleges, following Madhya Pradesh. Bihar government also came forward to offer offering MBBS courses in Hindi. Students passing the NEET UG 2024 exam will be enrolled in the new Hindi course in Bihar, which will adhere to the AIIMS Delhi syllabus.
