True freedom across a population implies respecting the other person’s freedom, while exercising one’s freedom. This applies to silent inter-personal relations as well as individual and society relations. Freedom then implies a degree of self-discipline that contributes to development at large.
Please Bear With…
The marriage hall next door is busy at all times. If it is not marriage, it is something else. But loud speakers will go on up until mid-night. This is one simple and elegant case of possibly inconveniencing the youth working hard for an exam, sick person trying to get sleep, a scholarly writer keen on completing a research paper and whatever. But, please do not be critical over the supremely great event and the accompanying loud music at the hall.
Ha, attractive flexi on a highway, with a superstar or a pretty lady endorsing a product (which they may never use!!) – it could inadvertently cause a traffic accident. Please do not stop the freedom of the ad-agency.
What a great morning to wake up. On one side is one religion playing its prayers. On the other, it is another. A third, a fourth etc., humbly and amicably coming sequentially. Did you work up until past mid-night, and trying to catch up with sleep? Be religious and tolerant. Never mind if you sleep less – it is good and godly.
Hundreds and thousands of walls adore all sorts of announcements and denouncements. It is freedom of speech on the wall.
Our TV stations are the best demonstrations of our freedom of speech. It is just that each and every citizen must have deep inward vision to know what is true and not so true.
The 9 pm smell? It is the garbage accumulation that sends the perfume on time, every night without fail. That piece of mother earth is very tolerant. Every home around is free from garbage. Respect their freedom to stay clean.
Freedom versus Insecurity
Freedom does not imply anyone can do anything.
In terms of personal security, Singapore, Osaka and Wellington are at the top, as per The Economist safe cities ranking for 2017 covering 60 world cities in all. At the bottom were Karachi, Caracas and Ho Chi Minh City. Mumbai and Delhi occupy middle positions of 30 and 33 respectively.
The site NUMBEO publishes global city level crime indexes for 2017. Within Asia, data refer to 88 cities in different nations. Top crime index is the distinction of Dhaka, Kuala Lumpur and Damascus at positions 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Gurgaon is at position 4. Least crime index was the honour of Singapore, Doha and Abu Dhabi at places 86, 87 and 88. Here is the list of Indian cities along with ranks: Gurgaon 4, Noida 9, Delhi 13, Kolkata 23, Bangalore 26, Mumbai 34, Pune 36, Chennai 39, Surat 41, Vadodara 43, Coimbatore 44, Visakhapatnam 45, Chandigarh 48, Ahmedabad 50, Hyderabad 54, Kochi 59 and Mangalore 77.
The good news is we have several cities on the less crime league. This is good news. The bad news, however, is that the nation’s capital is not quite safe.
Free India
The entire nation is free when all people are and feel free. That in turn would imply each respecting the others’ freedom.
