Tilak Varma created history by becoming the first player ever to score three consecutive centuries in T20 cricket. The Mumbai Indians star had earlier hit two back-to-back hundreds for India against South Africa, scoring an unbeaten 107 in the third T20I and 120 not out in the fourth. This achievement also makes him just the fifth player in international cricket to score consecutive centuries in T20s.
He achieved this milestone while leading the Hyderabad team as captain. He played an extraordinary knock of 151 runs off just 67 balls against Meghalaya. His innings included 14 fours and 10 sixes, helping Hyderabad post an impressive total of 248-4. Varma's 151-run innings is the highest total ever scored by a male Indian cricket player in Twenty20 cricket.
Shreyas Iyer set the previous record in the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when he struck 147 for Mumbai against Sikkim. Tilak became the first Indian male batter to score over 150 runs in a T20 match. He is also the second Indian overall to achieve this milestone, following Kiran Navgire, who scored 162 runs for Nagaland against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022 Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.
Tilak smashed medium-fast bowler Dippu Sangma, scoring a quickfire 50 off just 18 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Dippu finally got his revenge by dismissing Tilak on the last ball of the innings, but not before taking a serious beating.
