Sohrabuddin was an offender who often tried to fleece various marble traders in and around Gujarat. He had tie-ups with several criminals including the Dawood gang and knowing the Gujarat ATS was after him, he escaped to Hyderabad with his wife.
Prosecution states that en route to the destination police dragged him out of his vehicle and in an encounter on Nov 26, 2005 they shot him dead. They contested, it was a fake encounter. The Congress party tried to use this episode and the case of Ishrat Jehan to attack both Modi and Shah.
When one cannot take a rival head on, then try to catch him in the criminal case even it is absolutely false. That was directing the Congress charge against PM Modi. It was no surprise that the then congress ruled UPA government tried to foist an encounter case on Modi to halt his growth within the BJP party and public. Events played out and while arguments that the various acts of commission and omission by the Congress party was on account of its hatred towards Modi, the fact remains that had they succeeded, 2014 may well have turned out different, for entire India.
How the congress benefited
It should be pointed out that that the congress party was in power at the center and often used its old tactics of intimidating political rivals by foisting false cases on them. That being said, most of the officials involved in the alleged conspiracy came from Gujarat which begs the obvious question why was Gujarat police used to defame Modi? It makes the story more credible, who will disbelieve the words of a police against that of a Chief Minister.
As later events pointed out, this turned out to be a blanket conspiracy being carried out with no credible evidence. The congress party viewed the murder of Sohrabuddin through a political prism. Around this time, the congress party was trying to entice the minorities in Gujarat to vote for the hand and tried to demonize Modi, by using the Sohrabuddin episode. The congress tried to use this episode as a political gimmick but it did not work. Modi and his party won the Gujarat elections, and he became Chief Minister again.
The Pain
The fact remains that as much as one may hate or love our PM, most admit that he happens to be a conscientious person. Sadly the then UPA regime used its caged parrot or the CBI to foist false cases on both Modi and Amit Shah. That the case did not stand the legal scrutiny is telling- for it points out the utter desperation in the Congress camp to do away with Modi at any cost. In fact, a few years later, we had Congress leader Mani Shankar Iyer cajoling Pakistan to take care of Modi and assuring them that everything will get back to normal.
While Modi is an able tactician and a strategist, even he found the disregard that his opponents had for law and order, disgusting. The fact remains that the congress was fast transforming into a political beast with zero morals. While the congress tried its level best to allege a conspiracy, recent events have proven this to be a red herring.
The recent judgment produced by the Honorable SC on this case, setting free the accused only proves that the case in question did not stand the scrutiny of law. The facts were convoluted to make it appear murky. Given that the lower courts have more or less, made the same observations, the SC observed that they did not expect the shoddy work by the prosecutor. Either way, this observation only shows you how the encounter of Sohrabuddin misused by the authorities and by the Congress party.
With the CBI court freeing the accused, it is but natural to ask the obvious question who killed Sohrabuddin and why? The fact remains that the Sohrabuddin case has not yet reached its conclusion. It has reached its end for both Modi and Shah. Till not proven as fake, the event stands as the police action which killed Sohrabuddin. One officer who tried his best to implicate Modi and Shah. He went to prison with his bail denied. They had found some officers intimidating witnesses as well, was this at the behest of the Congress party. Was it a case of political opportunism at its worst? Either way, the congress party’s dirty tricks department failed here and the truth prevailed.
