In Bengal Panchayat elections, at least 12 people were killed and many more injured as the violence took over the state with political goons from TMC running amok. Panchayat Elections in Bengal were already under scanner with TMC partymen not allowing BJP or other parties to even file nominations. Amidst all the controversies, when the Panchayat elections were held today it seemed that the State Machinery had completely lost control. TMC Minister Rabindra Nath Ghosh was captured on camera slapping a BJP poll agent in Coochbihar outside polling booth. At other places bombs were hurled and ballot boxes damaged making a mockery of the democratic exercise in state of Bengal. In Sonadangi, a ballot box was retrieved from a nearby pond.
Amidst all this, the official reaction of TMC is shocking. While Derek O Brien justified the violence saying that political violence in Bengal is nothing new, Mamata Banerjee has issued no other statement. Liberal media that threatens apocalypse at every statement uttered by Chief Minister of Tripura has found little time to hit the streets and rue the death of democracy in Bengal
Some of the shocking and horrifying things seen in West Bengal during the Panchayat Elections were as follows:

Meanwhile in a shocking statement, this is how TMC MP Derek O Brien tried to put a spin to all this
To all 'newborn' experts on Bengal #PanchayatElections in State have a history. 400 killed in poll violence in 1990s in CPIM rule. 2003: 40 dead.Every death is a tragedy. Now closer to normal than earlier times.Yes, few dozen incidents. Say,40 out of 58000 booths. What's %age ?
