India has been re-elected to the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for the 2025–2026 term, continuing its pivotal role in promoting global peace and stability. The announcement was made on Thursday by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the mission stated; "India has been re-elected to the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) for 2025-2026. As a founding member and major contributor to @UNPeacekeeping, India is committed to continuing its engagement with the PBC to work towards global peace and stability."
The Peacebuilding Commission, an intergovernmental advisory body established in December 2005, focuses on supporting peace efforts in conflict-affected nations. It serves as a bridge between the UN General Assembly, the Security Council, and other relevant entities, providing advice on peacebuilding needs and strategies.
India has been an active member of the PBC since its inception and has consistently played a significant role in global peacebuilding efforts. As a founding member and one of the largest contributors to UN Peacekeeping operations, India's re-election underscores its steadfast commitment to fostering peace in conflict-affected regions.
The PBC aims to enhance the international community's capacity to address post-conflict situations through an integrated and strategic approach. It promotes coordination between humanitarian, development, and peace actors to support nationally-led peacebuilding initiatives.
Through its thematic and country-specific discussions, the Commission provides a platform for nations to share experiences and best practices. It also emphasises mission transitions and works in close collaboration with United Nations peacekeeping operations, special political missions, and country teams.
India’s re-election to the PBC highlights its ongoing dedication to working towards a more stable and peaceful world, aligning with its long-standing tradition of contributing to international peacekeeping efforts.
