Bypoll Results 2024: Early trends show mixed outcomes across 14 states

As vote counting continues for 46 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies across 14 states, early results reveal varied performances by political parties. Initially, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced elections for 48 assembly seats, but two seats in Sikkim were uncontested.
In Sikkim, the Soreng-Chakhung and Namchi-Singhithang seats were won unopposed by Aditya Golay (Tamang) and Satish Chandra Rai of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM). Results from other constituencies across states are expected to unfold throughout the day.
In Assam, the BJP secured Dholai and Behali with Nihar Ranjan Das and Diganta Ghatowal emerging victorious. The Congress won Samaguri through Tanzil Hussain, while UPP(L) and AGP claimed Sidli and Bongaigaon respectively.
In Bihar, BJP dominated, winning Tarari and Ramgarh, while Deepa Kumari from HAM(S) and Manorama Devi from JD(U) secured Imamganj and Belganj, respectively.
In Chhattisgarh, BJP’s Sunil Kumar Soni clinched Raipur City South.
In Gujarat, Congress’ Gulabsinh Pirabhai Rajput initially led in Vav but later lost to BJP's Swarupji Thakor by over 2,000 votes after 24 rounds of counting. In Karnataka, Congress dominated with victories in Shiggaon, Sandur, and Channapatna.
In Kerala, Congress’ Rahul Mamkootathil won Palakkad, while CPI(M)’s UR Pradeep took Chelakkara.In West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) won Sitai, Madarihat, Haroa, Taldangra and Naihati. In Medinipur, TMC’s Sujoy Hazra defeated BJP’s Subhajit Roy by 34,000 votes.
In Kerala’s Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra made her electoral debut with a landslide victory, leading by over 6.22 lakh votes. Communist Party of India’s Sathyan Mokeri trailed with 2.11 lakh votes, while BJP’s Navya Haridas secured third place. Priyanka broke her brother Rahul Gandhi’s record of a 3.65 lakh vote margin, despite a dip in voter turnout from 74% in April to 65%.
Expressing gratitude for X, Priyanka stated, “I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the trust you have placed in me... I look forward to being your voice in Parliament!" She thanked her family, including Rahul Gandhi, who actively campaigned for her, saying; "If she likes you, she will do whatever; beyond anything you can imagine. She is going to like Wayanad a lot.”
In Maharashtra’s Nanded, BJP’s Dr. Santukrao Marotrao Hambarde emerged victorious.BJP’s Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary remarked on the Uttar Pradesh results: “The agenda to divide the society in the name of caste and language has been rejected. UP is moving forward on PM Modi’s 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' formula."
TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee celebrated the party’s success in Bengal, stating; “Congratulations to all six AITC candidates... My heartfelt gratitude to every grassroots worker... for upholding Bengal’s dignity and pride."
In Uttarakhand, BJP’s Asha Nautiyal secured Kedarnath, prompting CM Pushkar Singh Dhami to comment:"This is a seal of people’s unwavering faith in the development work of the double-engine government."
In Rajasthan, BJP dominated with wins in multiple constituencies, including Jhunjhunu and Ramgarh.
These bypolls, involving 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies, have served as a litmus test for various political parties ahead of upcoming elections.
