BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between India's DRDO and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyenia, has become the first company in India to announce job reservations for Agniveers under the Agnipath Scheme. Headquartered in Delhi, the company was founded in 1998. India holds a 70 per cent stake in the company.
At least 15% of technical and general positions at BrahMos Aerospace will be filled by Agniveers, per the new policy. Reserve 50% of open positions in administrative and security roles, including those with outsourced functions, will go to Agniveers. For positions that satisfy BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited's (BAPL) requirements, the company will ask its industry partners to assign 15% of their workforce to Agniveers. Up to 15% of contractual jobs are also subject to the reservation.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar Joshi, Deputy CEO, of BrahMos Aerospace asserted, "Agniveers, after four years of service in the armed forces, will emerge with a deep sense of discipline and nationalism, alongside expertise in their respective fields. This skill set is exactly what we need to mould them according to the requirements of BAPL. The Agnipath scheme serves as a valuable filter, ensuring that individuals possess the requisite skills to join our workforce."
The project seeks to integrate Agniveers into civilian careers while expanding their opportunities. Dr. Joshi emphasised again the need for the program to produce a more committed and qualified workforce in critical positions. "After the Agnipath scheme, the same can be ensured by reserving the contracts to companies fulfilling the 50% Agniveer criteria. I am sure this aspect of the government's Agnipath scheme will be helpful to other corporate houses and other defence industries,” said Dr Joshi.
The Indian government unveiled the Agniveer Scheme in June 2022, emphasising the development of a young, agile military. Young Indians between the ages of 17.5 and 21 are eligible to enroll in the program for a maximum of four years.
Based on performance, organisational needs, and other factors, 25% of the workforce is anticipated to be retained in a regular cadre following this time. Employees who leave their jobs after four years are given preference for positions in law enforcement, community adversity police forces, and other related services.
